How to Draw a Sad Anime Face

1. Begin by sketching the curvature of the face. Use a long, curved line, and note the contours of the cheek and chin.

2. Sketch the hair, fully enclosing the outline of the face. Use long, curved lines to sketch in the top of the head. Then, use a series of curved lines of various lengths to complete the locks of hair around the face. For each lock, use two curved lines that meet at a sharp point. Note how some of the locks overlap one another.

3. Continue drawing the long hair as if it is blowing in the wind. Use curved lines of various lengths. At the end, allow the lines to meet at jagged points. Use additional curved lines to add texture to the hair.

4. Draw the girl's neck and torso. Extend a pair of lines downward from the head to form the neck. Then, extend curved lines from just above the base of the neck. Bring them together at a point. This outlines the inside of the shirt collar. Form the sides of the collar using curved triangular shapes. From the collar, extend curved lines on each side to form the shoulders. Use sets of parallel lines to demarcate the sides of the vest.

5. Continue to texture the hair with long curved lines running the length of it, allowing them to meet at points. Use thick curved lines to indicate the eyebrows.

6. Draw the first crying eye. Use a thick curved line for the eyelid. Beneath it, outline the eye using curved lines that meet at points. Use a curved line, doubled back upon itself, to enclose the tear. For the eye itself, enclose several increasingly smaller circles within one another. Shade one to indicate the pupil. Add dimension by drawing a curved line above the eyelid.

7. Draw the remaining eye. Again, use a thick curved line for the eyelid, and enclose the shape of the eye beneath it. Draw a teardrop shape at the corner, and enclose several increasingly smaller circles within the eye. Shade one to indicate the pupil.

8. Use a curved line to draw the small nose, and enclose several teardrop shapes streaming down the cheek.

9. Add additional detail to the hair as necessary. Then, use curved lines to sketch the frowning mouth and chin.
